March 5th 2014 would be a day that ESPN Baton Rouge radio host, Matt Moscona’s life would change directions. This would be a day he would find out how his 20-week-old unborn son would be delivered into this world with CDH, congenital diaphragmatic hernia. CDH is a birth defect in which the diaphragm of an infant does not completely form, this leads to the entrapment of major organs in the diaphragm area, slowing developmental growth for the child. Now through 8 major surgeries, his first being when he was nothing but 18 hours old, Moscona’s son is “doing well by his standards.”

The journey of a parent with a special needs child is one of many challenges, but Matt Moscona has found his “normal” in it all. According to Moscona, we must all “learn to develop our own normal.” His story is one of dedication, love, and commitment. More than anything, his story defines the unshakable love of a father towards his son. This July, Moscona’s son will turn 3 years old with his loving parents by his side.
